SUL Researcher Wins Outstanding Thesis Award

SUL researcher, Maria Jimena Muzio’s thesis won DUSP’s Outstanding MCP Thesis Award! There is only one thesis award for the 2023 graduating MCP cohort, huge congratulations!

Her thesis title is, “Understanding Housing Supply under Stringent Energy-efficiency Regulations”.

Jimena’s thesis is the outcome of our 1.5 year sponsored research project sponsored by HBRAMA (Massachusetts Association of Home Builders and Remodelers), on how to balance “net-zero” building energy regulation (new opt-in stretch code in MA) and the pressure on housing affordability. This project was led by Justin Steil, Zhengzhen Tan, and Siqi Zheng; Maria Jimena Muzio and Akrisht Pandey have served as excellent RAs.  We also thank Steve Weikal for helping us get this project.

On top of this sponsored project, Jimena and Dongxiao Niu worked together, with Justin and Siqi, on a paper discussing how the new stretch code will lead to housing price change and housing supply change, and quantify how this new sustainability regulation will constrain new construction.

Jimena’s MCP thesis was co-supervised by Justin and Siqi
